Meet MCC school therapy dog, Debbie, who supports the students in Berrings N.S., Cork

Debbie’s first day in Berrings National School was the 20th of December 2021. Since that day, there has been an increase in smiles and cuddles in Berrings. Debbie Doodles is a friend, a confidante, a comfort blanket and a playmate.  She’s the proud recipient of her own song ‘Oh Debbie you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind – Hey Debbie, hey Debbie!

The impact our lovely Debbie has had is profound. She has a quiet dignified presence and this is contagious especially when she is on a yard during lining up time. Young children have pointed at her picture on their timetables if she’s late, wondering where she is, she provides support to children who need it and when they need it, she was the school’s biggest cheerleader at our qualifications for Cork City Sports and she even took pride of place on our ‘dog-walk’ during our Junior Entrepreneur Programme Showcase. Despite all her achievements to date, her biggest superpower without doubt is her ability to play with everyone.

We are thrilled to have Debbie Doodles as a member of our school community and excited to see what this school year has in store for us all. Thank you My Canine Companion for providing us with our School Therapy Dog and for supporting us on this journey.

My Canine Companion introduced Ireland's first school therapy programme, and our school therapy dogs, like Debbie, are now supporting children in schools nationwide!!
