It is with great regret that we have to announce that we are closing our waiting lists,since our foundation in 2011, we have grown to be now the largest provider of this service in the country and we do not have the financial or human resources to expand to reach the excessive demand.

We have been the only list open for the last two years and have kept our list open as long as we possibly could but it has now become unsustainable with the wait for one of our puppies now 2.5 years.

Green Tie Ball

April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day, and to celebrate this My Canine Companion are doing it in style!

My Canine Companion’s first ever “Green Tie” ball is happening this Saturday April 2nd!

Held at the fantastic Clayton Hotel Silver Springs hotel in Cork,a drinks reception starting at 7pm, then a 4 course meal, with entertainment from The Vendettas,followed by a DJ and late bar, plus a fantastic raffle!

The ball is being organized by parents and volunteers from My Canine Companion and we are delighted to have the Lord Mayor of Cork attend our drinks reception and support our event.

A Dog for Joe Joe

Imagine your sitting at your desk and getting along with your day to day living, paying the mortgage. Normal stuff! Your little child with a Severe Intellectual disability is sitting at home in your window. He looks at the world as it goes by. Your partner, be it your husband wife, boyfriend or girlfriend is doing the daily house chores close by. Your child is looking at the other and boys his age play various games, especially now as the evenings are long. You know your child who has so much energy would love to be out there. Just then one of the children playing catches your child sitting in the window. The child waves at your boy but your boy does not wave back. The child in the field wonders why! Just then in the distance one of the kids walks over to the boy and communicates to him. You imagine they must have told him about your boy being special because he seems to be accepting of the fact now that your child has not waved.

Inside you wish your child did wave at the boy. You wish your child was out there playing, tumbling, falling, destroying the new jeans you just bought or kicking the new runner to pieces that you just paid heavy for. But you know it’s just a bridge to far or a wall too high whatever acronym you choose to use you know its just never going to happen.

You now look back at your child and wonder. Wonder what is going through his mind. Is he lonely? Is he happy? Does he understand what loneliness is or happiness means? So many emotions run through your mind so quickly it can overcome you some days.

This is a brief history of our time.

So many people with kids or siblings in our situation including my son benefit greatly by the introduction of an Autism Assistance dog. The dog is a companion to the child but the dog is also blessed with many other gifts. The dog can be trained to detect seizures which my child suffers from and when I am out with my child he can be tethered to the dog to prevent him running away. The dog is essentially designed to be part of my boys life.

**** CAR DRAW WINNER ANNOUNCED MONDAY 4TH MAY****

Kathleen Lynch, Minister of State at the Department of Health with special responsibility for Primary Care, Social Care (Disabilities & Older People) and Mental Health drew the winning ticket for our Car Draw for the Mitsubishi Space Star on Monday 4th May in Cork.

Congratulations to Rachel Kelleher the winner of our CAR DRAW who is from Mayfield in Cork.

Jog for a Dog – 12th April 2015

A date for your diary!! This April 12th there will be a 5k race for MCC.

The venue is Castletown House, Celbridge, Co. Kildare which is 3 exits after Liffey Valley (about 5 mins).

If you run, know someone who runs, or just want to walk it, this is a great way to contribute to MCC and have fun at the same time. We will be providing sponsor cards to anyone who wants them.

Alternatively, you can set up an iDonate page, but please let us know about it so we can enter you in a draw where you can win a prize from the lovely people in The Hamlet Court Hotel, Enfield, Co. Meath

We are holding it during Autism Awareness Month, and Castletown have agreed to light up the house blue for the month.

There will be some family activities like face-painting & mascots, a choir (low-key music), this will take place in a courtyard, but the grounds are large enough to take the kids for a stroll for some quiet.

It will be a great day out
